Learn how to strum, fret the dulcimer, read tab, play backup chords, and participate in a jam session – all while learning to play great songs you already know!

It’s never too early to learn chords.  Using fun and simple tunes, we will learn to make open, partial, and bar chords that you can use for jamming, singing and expressing yourself. 

Hard Stuff Made Easy.  We’ll hit all the basics: understanding chord shapes and left hand fingerings make all the difference; strumming techniques help your rhythm and sound. 

Using the 1-1/2 Fret.  Use scales, chords and  tunes to discover how to use your 1-1/2 fret to it’s full potential. DAD tuning, tab provided.  1-1/2 and 6-1/2 frets needed.

Syncopation & Counter Point.  Learn how to add “off beat” into your playing.  A variety of styles will be explored.

Ensemble Repertoire.  We’ll learn multi-part arrangements of an eclectic mix such as fiddle tunes, aires and waltzes, classical, tin pan alley, gospel tunes, and more.  New tunes!

NOTE: This exact class will be taught again Fourth Session.

We’ll improve musicality, rework arrangements, learn how to deal with performance anxiety, more advanced skills. 

The Beginner’s Toolbox.  The foundation you need to learn tips and tricks that make learning tunes easier. 

Memorable Waltzes. Perfect tunes for hammered dulcimer!  This class will add to your repertoire and offer ideas on giving a waltz fullness, variety with chording, arpeggios and harmony.

Learning to Fly.  We’ll explore advanced ideas like hammer independence, scales and tunes in non-traditional keys, chordal and rhythmic embellishments, plucking, damping and muting.

Rick’s Favorite Performance Tunes.  We’ll learn how to make these tunes work to create great performance skills for you.

Learn to play this fun and easy instrument.  Learn fiddle tunes, reels and jigs.  Instruments are available for rent or purchase.

All you need to know to start or advance, including tuning, holding, strumming techniques, many keys.

For those players who know the three major chords in a key within the first five frets.  Passing chords, inversions and minor chord substitutions can make your guitar more interesting and fun both in harmony and rhythm.  Simple scales, too.

Start the morning with song!  Vera will teach you some new songs, share some of your favorites, add in some harmony and vocal parts.  A great way to start your day!

Learn to mark glass, cut glass,  grind, foil and solder glass, and take home a prize possession!
