Mountain Dulcimer B Dave Haas Learn how to strum and fret, read dulcimer tab, play backup chords, participate in a jam session, learn to play great songs you already know and add the “big ending” to a tune!
B/I Tull Glazener Intro to Chord-Melody Style Playing. We’ll incorporate playing melody and back-up chords simultaneously. We’ll review basic chord formations up and down the fret board, then show how melody line tends to “fall out” of the chord structure. Bring a capo.
B/I Butch Ross Great Tunes (almost) Nobody Plays. There are wonderful tunes out there that don’t get played enough. Come learn what are sure to be your new favorites.
B/I Janita Baker Rounds & Canons. We’ll divide into 3 or 4 part groups to play a variety of rounds. Enhance timing and sight reading skills as you discover how to become a true part of the ensemble sound!
I Dan Evans Airs In Ionian (DAA). Play beautiful instrumental arrangements in DAA of popular folk songs from the British Isles. We’ll cover melody, harmony, drones, expressive techniques and basic arranging.
I Karen Mueller Take playing to the next level with new tunes in a variety of styles from old-time to Celtic and contemporary. We’ll work on efficient fingerings, optimal use of chords and harmonies, flat-picking, strumming and finger-picking, arranging with several parts for groups.
I Bruce Ford Singing & Performing. Learn tried and tested methods for blending you voice with that of your dulcimer. Learn tips and tricks including simplifying your playing while singing, designing breaks, planning sets and song selection plus tools necessary to begin performing.
I/A Aaron O'Rourke Fiddle Tunes from Funksy to Folksy. We’ll use fiddle tunes to show how to add variation to tunes you already know. Variations will be split into rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic variations then put together into a fiddle tuney collage of awesomeness!
I/A - A Gary Gallier Cross Key Playing. 1.5 fret needed! Many keys work well on a DAd tuned dulcimer besides D, without need for a capo. This class will include scale study for all available keys, but the focus of tunes will be in the keys of A and G, getting into other keys as time will allow.
A Sarah Elizabeth Church Music for the Dulcimer. Do you play in church with your dulcimer? Come learn some neat arrangements and songs that would fit beautifully in any church service!
A Jeff Furman Creativity & Expressing Yourself! We’ll explore concepts and techniques of expressing yourself through your music. You can play…now learn how to make a song yours. Please bring a capo.
All Robert Force Sweeten The Mids! Monitors, mains, mixers and mics – you are only as good as your sound! Learn hands-on how to run a sound system and to ommunicate clearly with those in whose hands rest your fate when on stage. Cables, cords, connectors, EQ’s, feedback, loops, direct boxes, room dynamics and more! Plug it in, customize it, run it!
Hammered Dulcimer B Rick Thum Learn how the dulcimer works and the tricks to learn tunes easily, as well as tunes and beginning technique. This class should take away your fear of the dulcimer.
B/I Princess Harris B/I players are often at that “wall” whereyou can learn melody of a tune easily but find it difficult to embellish. We’ll use familiar tunes and some new ones to learn a variety of embellishments and how to integrate them into the melodies.
I Steve Eulberg Arranging for Hammered Dulcimer. This class will address how you develop a tune that you want to perform. We’ll use Simple Gifts & I Wonder As I Wander plus bring a tune you want to use.
I - I/A Karen Ashbrook O’Carolan Tunes. Beautiful melodies composed by the 17th Century blind Irish harper.
A Dan Landrum We’ll look at techniques to spice up your solo arrangements, set you free to improvise and help you find the unwritten songs within you that are waiting to get out!
Penny Whistle B Guy George We’ll learn some cool whistle tunes, how to play in different keys, and some chromatics. All kinds of music, folk, Irish, Jazz, etc. Bring a D whistle; available in class.
Autoharp B Les Gustafson-Zook Starting with the basics, you’ll be playing in no time! Basic strums, picks, tuning, care & feeding.
Vocal All Vera Frazier Learn some new and fun songs, share some of your favorites, learn simple harmonies, rounds, and more!
**Quilling All Christine Carter Learn this fun and intricate method of making just about anything from coiling paper strips!
**Washtub Bass Making & Playing All Alan Darveaux You’ll be making and playing this fun and jam-friendly instrument in no time! We’ll purchase materials in camp on Day #1 field trip.
