Mountain Dulcimer B Jackie Armstrong We’ll cover the basics including tuning to DAD, reading music tablature (tab), how to strum, play simple tunes, and more! Lots of fun!

Jam Survival Skills. Learn a variety of chord positions and strumming variations to help you join the Jam with confidence!
B/I Jerry Rockwell Favorite American Folktunes. With an emphasis on playing simply and beautifully with expression, we’ll be using open string drones to gently support our melody playing and picking out single-string melodies. DAD, DAA, DAG, DAC and DGD tunings will be explored.
B/I & UP Don Pedi Tunings for Traditional Music. We’ll explore modes and tunings to find the right sound for any given song or tune. No capo or chords will be used in this class.
B/I – I Janita Baker 4 Equi-distant Strings! Using a variety of musical genre and techniques we’ll explore this easy, fun and musical way of playing. We’ll start with simple pieces and work up from there allowing for better understanding and familiarity with the opportunities this string configuration offers.
I Sarah Morgan Introduction To DGD Tuning. The haunting DGD tuning opens a new pallet of chords and harmonies. Traditional and contemporary pieces will be taught as well as simple theory behind DGD. 1.5 fret required for one song.
I Nina Zanetti Some Favorite Classics! We’ll learn some lovely tunes from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods of music with just enough history to make the tunes come alive.
I & UP Karen Mueller Ensemble for Mountain Dulcimer (bass and baritones, too), and Autoharp. These instruments sound so beautiful together! We’ll use waltzes, Celtic tunes, and tunes from Appalachia to build solid rhythm, effective arrangements, intros, breaks and endings. We’ll be playing in the keys of D and possibly G. Bring a capo.
I/A Joellen Lapidus We’ll learn songs, discover new melodies and chords in non-traditional and fascinating dulcimer tunings. We’ll learn many variations of the slap technique used by Joni Mitchell in her dulcimer songs as we develop speed, and more!
I/A Dave Haas The Celtic Connection. Expand your repertoire with wonderful Celtic melodies such as “Si Beeg Si Mor”, “Red Haired Boy” and many more. Both slow and fast tunes, left and right hand techniques for smooth playing. No blarney! DAD
A Aaron O'Rourke Visit the “Outer Limits”! Topics will include improvisation, variation, phrasing tricks, and playing with spontaneity. DAD. Capo
Bowed Dulcimer All Marsha Harris Learn basic technique and some great tunes; bring a violin bow if you have one. No bowed dulcimer? We’ll set up your fretted dulcimer to use!
Hammered Dulcimer B Ruth Smith From The Beginning. We’ll start from the beginning and cover everything you’ld like to know as a new player, including making sense of all those strings, hammers, tuning, technique, instrument layout, chords, some great tunes, and lots more!
B/I Ken Kolodner Waltzes & Other Slow Tunes. Using some beautiful waltzes and slow airs we’ll explore incorporating some basic techniques while arranging simple tunes.
B/I - I Karen Ashbrook Those Other Celts! There are 7 Celtic nations of which Irish and Scottish are only 2. We’ll use music from Isle of Man, Wales, Brittany and Galicia as you get a taste of Celtic gems from other cultures!
I - I/A Rick Thum Syncopation: Tunes & Techniques. We will learn syncopated tunes and also how to create and use syncopated embellishments in tunes that are not syncopated. If you think you are coordinated now – try this class!
A Andy Young Gypsy Swing! This music of guitar genius Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli blends traditional Gypsy melodies, French influence and the American Jazz songbook. We’ll learn Gypsy scales and arpeggios, four-note jazz chords, and chromatic scales.
Harmonica B - B/I Peter Madcat Ruth Learn the basics of playing including breath control, finding your notes and playing with accuracy, using your hands and mouth to “shape” the sounds you produce. A standard 10 hole harmonica in the key of D is required.
Fiddle B David Wilson Learn proper left and right hand techniques, bowing techniques and developing better intonation. We’ll also cover how a fiddle works and why (tuning, set-up, the bow, making different tones, volumes, etc.).
Mandolin B/I & UP Paul Oorts We’ll learn to play some Irish polkas, jigs, reels, hornpipes, and slip jigs, and how to play back-up. All new tunes!
Penny Whistle I Mark Gilston We’ll cover basic ornamentation with an emphasis on Irish music. We’ll learn slow airs and simple faster tunes then bring them to life with graces, slurs, cuts, trills and mordents, and more!
Banjo B Steve Smith Clawhammer Banjo from the Ground Up! Learn the basic right-hand clawhammer stroke, simple left-hand chords, pulls and hammers and more! Beginner skill level – no experience necessary! NOTE: Loaner banjos available for in-class use for those without an instrument.
Autoharp B Toni Sager Playing Accompaniment with the Autoharp. We’ll learn strumming patterns, chords associated with the key of the music, listening for chord changes in the melody and choosing the correct chord for those changes.

Harmony Singing! This class will teach you the skills you need to be able to “hear” and successfully “sing” harmony. Using rounds and other tricks you’ll be finding harmony notes in no time. For all levels.
Guitar B/I Wayne Seymour Back-up Guitar. If you know most of the chords D, G, A, C, Am, Em, F, Dm, and E and can change from one to another, this class is for you! We’ll learn proper pick technique, rhythm and tempo, using runs to connect chords and playing melody on simple songs.
Ukulele B Jim Miller This class covers chords, tuning, scales and chord voicing. Several fun tunes will be taught.
B/I - I Sharrie George Introduction to Finger Style Playing. We’ll learn an alternative playing style as backup for those slower tunes and later, faster tunes. We’ll apply these to some tunes from Hawaii and around the world!
Harp B Lorinda Jones We’ll focus on basic playing techniques and learning simple melodies by both rote and note. An introduction to chords and arpeggios will help you really feel like a harper!
Steel Drum B Guy George A to Z on the Steel Drum. Learn melodies, harmonies, bass lines, basic chords for back-up and calypso style playing, jamming, and playing in the dulcimer world!
**Basketry All Mary Carty Ribbed Baskets. We’ll make a traditional egg basket, learning how to shape those ribbed baskets into useful everyday baskets. Bring scissors, clothes pins, awl or screw driver, spray bottle and a towel.
**Stained Glass B/I - I Gale Sturm This class is for those with some experience. We’ll take on more intricate designs and patterns, creating an heirloom piece!
