Mountain Dulcimer B Butch Ross Make a Joyful Noise. Our best loved hymns are easier to learn to play than you think. We’ll learn loads of favorite tunes during this five day hymn sing!
B/I Sarah Elizabeth Fun, Familiar Folk Tunes. We’ll learn some of the singable and memorable melodies we all know and love.
B/I Robert Force Two Stop Chords. With a two stop chord you gain a world of inversions – different and easy voicing that preserves the drone string yet still moves the melody through simple chord changes. Learn the delicacy found in this as we play some of these tunes and look at flat picking.
B/I - I Aaron O'Rourke Fundamentals of Flatpicking. We’ll work slowly and concentrate on articulation, flow, and pulling good tone. We’ll also learn a few tunes in the process. Bring a capo.
I Molly McCormack Celtic Melodies for All Seasons. Traditional English and Irish melodies and carols that celebrate spring, summer, fall, and winter (including Christmas tunes). D-A-d tuning, bring a capo.
I Stephen Seifert Bluegrass & Blues Tunes in A. DAD, capo 4. We’ll cover a different arrangement each day including Black Mountain Rag, Maiden’s Prayer, a classic Country Blues, & more including tips on fingering.
I Bruce Ford Daily PT for the Intermediate Player. We’ll reinforce your intermediate skills and move toward a more advanced level through mastering motions and positions involved in fingering, chording, strum techniques and embellishments. Many of the motions and tasks you find challenging will become more natural as you develop confidence.
I/A Bing Futch I Got Those Mountain Dulcimer Blues. “Woke up this mornin’, all my dulcimer played was the blues, I’ll give you chords, scales, licks and rhythms, for playin’ the blues that you’ll want to use!
A Dan Evans Advanced Ionian (DAA). Learn how to get the best from Ionian, making beautiful music come to life as we work on harmonic accompaniments, chords & finger picking, solo instrumental arrangements, composition and expression techniques.
All Tull Glazener TablEdit for Mountain Dulcimer. Bring your laptop and, before KMW, download the “free” version from their web site (www.tabledit.com). No laptop? You can participate by watching instructions on a video projector in the classroom.
Bass Dulcimer I/A Janita Baker This class will cover techniques for playing the bass dulcimer and utilizing the bass as a lead, backup and ensemble instrument. New, as well as experienced, bass players are welcome!
Hammered Dulcimer B Martha Richard New players will become more familiar with their instruments by learning some songs by ear and some via sheet music.
B/I Dan Landrum We’ll establish good foundations in hammering, note recognition, tuning techniques to save you tons of time, and learn the most important thing of all – how to learn and keep it fun!
I Karen Ashbrook Celtic Repertoire. We’ll learn dance tunes from many Celtic cultures (Ireland, Scotland, Galicia, Isle of Man, and Brittainy.
I/A Rick Thum Recording Class. Learn what goes into making a good recording. We will try to get each person to do a recording and go home with a CD of that performance.
Autoharp I Les Gustafson-Zook Everybody Polka! Fun intermediate melody class. Learn melody picking with some favorite polkas!
Guitar B/I - I Jim Miller Flat Picking Guitar. This class covers scales and picking technique with an emphasis on playing melodies. Several fiddle tunes will be taught.
Mandolin All Paul Oorts Just enough musical theory and lots of practice in different musical styles to become proficient playing chords.
Harp B - B/I Donna Missigman We’ll explore the basics of Harp with an emphasis on playing simple tunes and learning basic techniques. Note reading a plus.
Old Time Fiddle All Janet Furman Learn traditional old timey tunes, waltzes, cross tuning, and through them, improve your fiddling technique for both fast and slow tunes.
Clawhammer Banjo B - B/I David Brooks We’ll learn the basic clawhammer stroke and develop the foundation for a steady, rhythmic right hand. We’ll cover left hand techniques to add melody & style.
**Baskets All Mary Carty Different types and styles of baskets from previous years. Bring scissors, cloth measuring tape, spray bottle, clip clothespins, a screw driver and a towel to make a treasure!
